As you wander around the streets of the town centre, you cannot help but notice this building's distinctive façade with its red and white mosaics. It recently became home to The Modernist, a hotel inspired by the eponymous artistic movement that began in the early 20th century. Inside its six apartments, time seems to have been arrested at the height of this movement, which was particularly well-represented in the Algarve until the early 1970s: the region has one of the largest collections of modernist buildings in southern Europe. “The details of each apartment in terms of architecture, furniture, materials and shapes make every stay a unique experience,” explain the couple who run the hotel.
Each apartment has a fully-equipped kitchen, a terrace or a balcony, and can accommodate up to four people, making it ideal for family holidays or groups of friends. A rooftop with a panoramic view of Ria Formosa and a patio with lots of greenery creates an incredible feeling of peace and calm in the very centre of Faro. The Modernist also takes an eco-responsible approach: everything here is made in the artisanal manner using only natural, local materials, such as the Algarve pink stone. To prolong the experience, the two owners have put together especially for you an itinerary for exploring the town, which will enable you to discover the best examples of modernist architecture.
