Haret Jdoudna puts Jordanian cuisine in the spotlight

Located in Madaba, this restaurant enjoys high repute among Jordanians, both for the cooking as well as its traditional setting.

Near the Dead Sea and Mount Nebo, 45 minutes by car from Amman, this restaurant is a choice destination for gourmets looking for the best local cuisine in a setting replete with history. Here, in this ancient dry-stone house lived a famous sheikh, the first mayor of Madaba and great-grandfather of the owner. Highly respected, he hosted many important people in his beautiful home. The spirit of that time is still here, in the portraits and antiques.
In summer, tables are set in the shady courtyard. Expect dishes like sambousek (small cheese dumplings), mushrooms cooked in rosemary, hummus, fried bread, and oven-cooked meat. Equally attractive is the wine list, which offers a nice range. In winter, dine by the fire and enjoy the charm of this renovated old house.
