Crossroads Kitchen: the veggie burger

In L.A., Crossroads Kitchen is the new hangout of the stars where you will find vegan food, Mediterranean style.

There is no food of animal origin here, neither eggs nor milk nor cheese. And yet you will hear throughout the city that the cooking is so good that even T-bone steak aficionados leave with stomachs full and smiles on their faces.

What is the secret to the Crossroads Kitchen? Perhaps it's the chef, Tal Ronnen, a vegan specialist that all Hollywood adores (Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres swear by him). Perhaps it's the all-natural, gluten-free ingredients or the Mediterranean inspiration.

You have to try the "impossible burger", specialty of the house, with lettuce, tomato, onion and house sauce on a toasted bun served with a few truffle-flavoured fries, or maybe venture beyond with eggplant caviar and marinated vegetables in bittersweet sauce. The soups are delicious as is the Meatballs Sub (classic American sandwich revisited with meat variations and almond ricotta). If you are dedicated vegan, come on in! But even a carnivore headed down Melrose Avenue could be tempted by the 'vegan way of life'.
