Kanua Tera: a getaway deep in southern New Caledonia

One hundred kilometres from Nouméa, the tranquil Kanua Tera is surrounded by the raw landscapes of New Caledonia's great south. It's the perfect place to get away from it all.

The Kanua Tera ecolodge sits in Port-Boisé bay, combining traditional architecture with the comfort of a luxury hotel. Its magical location between the lagoon and the rainforest makes it a getaway destination like no other. The 18 beachside chalets all offer terraces looking out over the bay, for guests to make the very most of their incredible surroundings.
Down on the beach, guests can explore the seabed or go paddleboarding or kayaking from a floating pier. During the whale-watching season, the hotel will book excursions for you with professional crews. A path known as the Convicts' Path winds its way through the underbrush, following the coastline to the Port-Boisé camp where the remains of a convict logging site – including the yard and the old camp's bread oven – await you. It's an easy walk, with pools along the way to cool off in. Once you get back, enjoy a lazy afternoon on the terrace in the shade of the banyan trees, and feast on fish, shellfish and quail.
