Off to Shibuya, in the residential neighbourhood of Dougenzaka, where Hotel Emanon has become the reference for gastronomes of all kinds.

This is not a hotel, never mind its front desk, name, and upstairs rooms. No, you are not dreaming: the Hotel Emanon is a hybrid place, a 'lifestyle base' that welcomes creative communities from the city.

You can visit the restaurant on the ground floor, which offers Mediterranean dishes from a French-trained Japanese chef, wander into the 'rooms' that are now showrooms and not places to sleep, or go to the co-working spaces. Here and there you may uncover an object or piece of furniture for sale, on display in situ in one of the different areas.

For a dinner between friends, head to the table d'hôte in unfinished wood and feast your eyes on the open kitchen, then treat your taste buds. The coffee bar serves hot or cold lattes to drink here or take home. A terrace will let you make the most of good weather with a lunch in fresh air.
