Corsican basketry, the art of weaving vegetation

Part of the island's cultural heritage, Annick Rony's basket works produce daily handicrafts from vegetation.

After a morning in Saleccia Park to admire the beauty of the seabed, take to the heights in the village of Calenzana to meet Annick Rony in the shade of olive trees.

Her desire to not let go of this ancient island tradition led her to apprentice with Jean-Luc, a famous shepherd from Lumio and Algaghjola. In her workshop, surrounded by the intoxicating smells of the maquis, her creations, made with branches of myrtle, olive, and reed, will astound.

Since 2002, this artisan basket maker has handled secateurs and pruning knives to manually work the raw materials into unique pieces. The beauty of these singular trays, wickerworks, and baskets charm and fascinate. At the end of the day, make a stop at the medieval town of Lama and discover the Campu Latinu, overlooking the Ostriconi valley, with a gorgeous sunset over crystal-clear waters.
