A cult restaurant that exudes true American popular culture, this is a place that seems immutable.
People come to Ben's Chili Bowl for the quaintly charming 1950s style decor, the musical ambience, the big smiles of the waiters and waitresses and the great prices. Ben and Virginia Ali opened in 1958, in a district known, since the beginning of the century, as the ‘Black Broadway'. Their venture has been a success ever since. It's a favourite haunt of singers and musicians Bing Crosby celebrated his 45th birthday here. Don't expect fine dining. Burgers, sandwiches, and hot dogs are the best fare.
And of course, the homemade chili con carne, the secret recipe for which has remained unchanged since the restaurant's beginnings.
